The article successfully utilizes exaggeration to convince adults with a literary interest in Charles Dickens, or who are interested in the history of London and/or Christmas to sign up for the Charles Dickens Christmas Walk. This quote implies through exaggeration that the streets of London are not modern so that a person would be able to see the city as someone from that historic era, “ this will be revealed amidst surroundings of the very streets that Dickens "walked about" and which are so untouched by time that they could easily provide the backdrop for a television or movie version of A Christmas Carol”(Dickens Christmas Walk). This sentence exaggerates that the city of London is still the same way as it was in 1843. This is an exaggeration because cities must be repaired over time to keep the streets safe and well maintained. The use of exaggeration in this context is successful at convincing the reader with an interest in historical London and Dickens’ writing that this walk will be an authentic experience.

The article successfully uses imagery to persuade adults interested in history or Dickens to sign up for the Charles Dickens Christmas Walk. This quote utilizes imagery to bring the history of nineteenth century London to life, “Candles are flaring in the windows of the Victorian offices, like ruddy smears upon the palpable brown air, as we delve into a muddled maze of narrow alleyways that nestle at the very heart of the old and historic City of London” (Dickens Christmas Walk). By using the descriptive language of candles “flaring in the windows” and the “palpable brown air” the reader is able to experience this description as if they were there. The use of imagery helps the writer to successfully convince a person to sign up for the walk through making it seem like a full sensory experience to enjoy.

The article successfully utilizes direct address to tell families and nature lovers that one of these 8 campgrounds are best for their camping experience. This introductory quote directly addresses the reader and calls our families and nature lovers, “Families often prefer the larger campgrounds with nice beachfront areas, while nature lovers opt for the smaller campgrounds or those that provide more privacy between sites” (Law, 8 Best Campgrounds in Algonquin Provincial Park: PlanetWare, 13 Dec 2016). The direct address tells the reader that families will enjoy the beachfront campgrounds and nature lovers will enjoy small, more intimate campgrounds; both of these options are available on this list. This direct address is helpful for articulating the proper audience because people outside of these categories immediately, because this is in the introduction, realize that this article is not for them.

The article uses facts and figures to persuade families and nature lovers to visit one of these 8 Algonquin Provincial Parks. When describing Archray Campground the writer includes facts and figures to help make the reader choose this spot, “Located about 50 kilometers down a gravel road off the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 417), the campground has a remote feel. The 45 campsites in this campground are well spaced and many are waterfront” (Law, 8 Best Campgrounds in Algonquin Provincial Park: PlanetWare, 13 Dec 2016). The facts and figures are that Archray Campground is located “50 kilometers” away from the highway and that there are “45 campsites”. Through utilizing the facts and figures, the reader knows that this campground is easily accessible off of a major highway and will know if it is spacious enough to fit their needs. The use of facts and figures is effective at persuading the audience to visit because it includes the necessary information to make an informed decision.
